Northend United 4 Ballyvea 3 Saturday 28th October 2023

Saturday gave the boys a chance to play a home tie in Ballymena in the NIBFA Cup, welcoming Ballyvea from Kilkeel to the Ballymena Showgrounds. A reshuffle of the team gave boys the opportunity to get game time under their belts. From the first whistle opportunities fell to Daniel on the wing as the boys started positively and it wasn’t long before Shay put the team one up with a neat finish with the outside of the foot. The second followed soon after when Niko raced onto a through ball to finish. To their credit Ballyvea continued to play and got one back before HT. Half time 2-1

After the half time talk and a few positional changes the second half started off brightly with the boys starting to take control but against the run of play Ballyvea equalised. This seemed to kickstart the team again with further goals from Niko and an unfortunate OG, seemed to kill the game. Ballyvea pulled a third back with a great header but the boys seen the game out. Full time 4-3

Saturday saw a trip up the motorway to Mallusk to take on Whitehead FC. On a perfect pitch for football, the Northend U16s started off the blocks quickly, putting pressure on the Whitehead defence. The pressure soon paid off as Sam Rogalski cut in from the right and his shot could only be palmed into the net by the Whitehead keeper. Further chances came and went but it was Whitehead who would score the only other goal in the half, when a defensive error resulted in a neat finish by the Whitehead striker. Half time 1-1

After a good run by Sam he was taken down to allow Blaine Mitchell to score his 3rd free kick in 2 games. Grove United 0 Northend United 3  Saturday 30th September 2023

On a perfect pitch for football, Northend’s U16s came up against a battling Grove United team. A very even start to the first half that was hampered by an injury to the captain Sam Rogalski which meant a reshape of the team early on . Jamie McAuley came on as a holding midfielder and didn’t put a foot wrong all game. The first goal came in the middle of the first half when Jack Patterson ran towards the 18yard and box and was brought down resulting in a free kick that was hammered home by Blaine Mitchell . The opposition rarely threatened the defence but when they did Danny and Blaine snuffed out the danger easily each time, Half time 0-1

The 2nd half was a scrappy affair with Grove attempting to get in the game. Northend scored a well worked 2nd when Niko crossed brilliantly for Shane McAuley to volley at the keeper who parried it in the net. The third goal killed the game when Blaine Mitchell dispatched a free kick after a foul on Daniel Waring who was running through the defence. Full time 0-3

New season, and a new start for the boys in the 2nd Division of the SBYL. This week the team was paired against Woodvale at Ballysillan Leisure Centre. On a tight pitch its was Woodvale that created the first opportunity but the defence of Aodhán, Blaine, Danny and Ryan O’Boyle snuffed out the danger.
